What we women create, how we speak, what we say - Exhibit

With March being the Women’s History Month we decided to start an open call to all the women artists who want to participate in a joint Art Show at Prism Arts Philadelphia.

As the result of the open call, we are excited to announce that 17 female artists will showcase their wonderful art during the last weekend in August. From different backgrounds, walks of life and art styles they bring to us a very diverse sneak-peek into their creative world.

The show will be open to public Aug 25th - Aug 27th

Below are the participating artists and a short bio in their own words.

  • Amber Nichole Staedtler: (paintings)

I consider myself an abstract, intuitive, expressionist artist inspired by the female existence. I use form, color and movement to express the love, loss and pain of my journey as a woman, mother, friend and lover. Every piece I create captures a moment. A moment of my time, my poetry and my story. All fleeting: often never to be seen or heard from again. Through art I am able to express myself when my words are not enough. To concentrate when the word around me feels turbulent. To heal and find peace within myself.

When I’m not in the studio painting, I cultivate young minds through education while I continuing my 18 year journey as a designer in fashion and book publishing. I share this adventure with my 2 amazing children who inspire me every day.

  • Jo Lin (she/they): (Inner Selves: An exploration through artificial intelligence and kink)

is a repressed creative turned burgeoning artist who has spent the pandemic resisting our culture of death by healing and nurturing life. She is a consummate cat mom, plant mom, and most recently an almost-foster mom. Preparing for and not being placed with a child led to a prolonged period of purposelessness and failure. Sitting squarely in those feelings led to an epiphany that her life's work is at the intersection of trauma healing, creativity unleashing, and (political) movement building. Birthing this project is a part of traveling toward that intersection.

  • Joey Mariano: (paintings)

  • Hollie Brown: (paintings)

A Bucks County based mixed media artist. After many years of creating retail environments and working in a museum, I have returned to my love of making art. I primarily create abstracted portraits using paints, various types of pencils, crayons, and other media. Inspiration comes from many sources, developing into emotional portraits of quiet sorrow or angst, usually genderless.

  • Sienna: (photography)

Currently based in Vietnam, Sienna has built a reputation for her evocative work in the realm of artistic nudes and kink photography. Body positive and passionate about diluting the overwhelming dominance of the male gaze within the nude photography space Sienna uses her work to tell the story behind the body she is photographing.

Through her lens, Sienna aims to demystify and celebrate the diverse spectrum of human desires, inviting viewers to question preconceived notions and embrace their own unique truths. Her work delves into the realm of kink and BDSM, exploring themes of trust, power dynamics, and the nuances of human connection. By presenting these subjects with respect, compassion, and a discerning eye, she opens up dialogues surrounding consent, agency, and the exploration of personal boundaries.

  • Lucy Shaiken: (paintings)

is an American artist living and working in Philadelphia, PA. Her paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries in the US and Canada. In 2021, Shaiken was awarded an Illuminate the Arts Grant by the City of Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture & The Creative Economy. She is a 2023 Artist-in-Residence at the Da Vinci Art Alliance.

  • Red Roper: (photography)

is a former creative producer and current very amateur photographer. She enjoys capturing the eerie, quirky and erotic and is drawn towards self portraiture. Red is heavily influenced by rope bondage, everyday objects and her own physicality.

  • Sarah: (paintings)

is a native of Philadelphia where she currently lives. She is fascinated by color, geometry, and movement. She works primarily in oil paint, pen and pencil drawing, and fabric art. One key theme is the human body in movement, particularly dance, and the merging of representational and abstract forms. Sarah's love of color and geometric forms is heavily influenced by medieval European art and architecture and Islamic art and architecture. Her art has its roots in joy and delight in the beauty of creation.

  • Maggie: (photography)

a lifelong creative, gamer, CrossFit enthusiast making her art show debut. While she’s always had a curiosity for photography, it’s her recent introduction into light painting that truly sparks her imagination. Drawing inspiration from her love for VR and the fantasy realms she often loses herself in, Maggie’s works capture the magic of digital and natural worlds. Dive in, and see where the light takes you.

  • Ari: (installation)

I'm Ari, I like art.

  • Helen: (photography)

currently based in Philadelphia. She is an up and coming photographer with a keen eye for capturing idyllic portraits and still-life that are very often complemented as having a painterly quality to them. Inspired by the renaissance and baroque masters she strives to create timeless images that capture the beauty and the sensuality of her subjects while looking at them with a modern eye. She is a 2023 Artist-in-Residence at the Prism Arts Philadelphia

  • Amber O'Donnell: (photography)

Amber has a love of erotic art and captures real life images with a sense of rawness and intimacy. Themes of strength and vulnerability run through her work highlighting the frailty and power of the human form.

On the eve of her last photography exhibit, 10 years ago, she endured a near-fatal car crash, as though some invisible force of nature wanted to stamp out her ability to create.

These works, the first she's exhibited since that catastrophic night, intend to resurrect that visual dialog, informed with the maturity and strength demanded of her on the journey to recovery.

  • Benefactress: (photography)

currently resides in Philadelphia and became interested in studying light, shadow, and interesting perspectives of the female form in 2018. Using only natural light, courage, movement, and capitalizing on the femininity of the female form she fiercely captures emotion in a powerful, striking way. Her work often seizes the juxtaposition of power and vulnerability. All of her images are self-shot using Google Pixel cellphones.

  • Jessica: (installation & photography)

An owe to the the days when my idea of church was the hour or two I spent on Sundays, with the earplugs I pocketed from the gun range, and the intricate folding of my issued clothing. When my way of getting to know myself included enlisting in the military.

  • Sabine: (photography)

Sabine is a captivating soul whose art is an intimate reflection of her journey as a mother, daughter, lover, and kinkster. A self-portrait model and photographer, she pushes the boundaries of expression as a cathartic escape and a means of connection. Her self-portrait images reflect her thoughtfulness, offering a glimpse into her world through a unique perspective. With an innate talent for composition, color, and perspective, she frames her emotions, inviting viewers to share in them. This marks her inaugural exhibit.

  • Emma Radulski: (paintings)

Emma is a Philadelphia based mixed-media abstract artist. She was born and raised in Newark, Delaware and has been engulfed in both visual and performing arts for over 22 years. Inspired by the ever-shifting landscape of the human psyche, her paintings are meant to convey the power of dormant emotions. Through abstract expressionism, she pulls at the fringes of human existence as a way to unveil hidden personas, to access the uncharted territories of the mind and to give back a voice to the words left unsaid. Her pieces employ opposing textures and stark contrasts, juxtaposing light and shadow as they forever exist in tandem. She hopes her art may stand as an invitation to confront the darkness in life, to revel in the dissonance, and to find your own solace in the midst of a chaotic world

  • Shira

I am primarily a self-taught maker of art quilts and love working with color and beautiful fabric to create one-of-a-kind expressions of either a theme or emotion. I like experimenting with new techniques and using traditional patterns in a modern way. I enjoy adding embellishments like embroidery, French knots, beads and sequins. My favorite shape is a triangle.

The show will be open to public Aug 25th - Aug 27th
